Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche will be the new Head of the Nyingma School. Following the parinirvana of Khabje Trulshig Rinpoche, his replacement as Head of the six major Nyingma monasteries was considered by representatives of the six respective traditions and two representatives of Nyingma in the Government of Tibet in exile.
Representatives visited Khabje Do-Drup Rinpoche in Sikkim on February 28th, to request that he be the head of the Nyingma School; however, Rinpoche declined due to health concerns.
On March 6th, Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, Minling Khenchen Rinpoche, Kathok Gertse Rinpoche, Khenpo Tsewang Gyatso (Representative of Payul Monastery), Khenpo Jamyang (Representative of Dzogchen Monastery) as well as Mr. Bhutuk Gyari and Khenpo Sonam Tenphel (Representatives of Nyingma in the Government of Tibet in Exile) had an audience with Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche in Shimla, H.P. India. They made the body, speech and mind offerings to Rinpoche, explained the purpose of their visit, and then requested Rinpoche to accept the position as Head of Nyingmapa. After thinking for sometime, Rinpoche responded that if H.E. Khochen Rinpoche assist me like he had assisted to Kyabje Trulshig Rinpoche and if everyone worked together for the benefit of Nyingmapa, he would agree that his name be used as the Head of Nyingmapa. Therefore, on behalf of the entire Nyingma School, Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche graciously accepted. This great and heartfelt news was a joy to all and after the upcoming audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, an official announcement will be made and all the representatives will offer long live prayers to Kyabje Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche
