New Year Message from H.E. Minling Khenchen Rinpoche

2014/3/2

Dear friends in Dharma ,

Please accept my most heartfelt and sincerest greetings for Losar; I wish your family, your team at work and you a blessed and cheerful year ahead.

As the years roll by, our hopes and expectations change and we need to be aware that we are heading closer to death. Over the years, we have experienced the impermanence of life, lost loved ones, welcomed new babies, celebrated successes and encountered failures. Every year, we create aspirations for better lives, more successes, happier marriages, more happy babies and whatever material wealth we desire.

When we look back at life, we realize nothing much has really changed. All our hopes and aspirations are the same in our outer world; however, we seldom aspire to change our inner strength. Wanting more materialistic and samsaric pleasures causes nothing less than severe anxiety, and it challenges our physical, emotional and mental wellness.

Despite our being subliminally aware of the futility of samsara, our habitual tendencies to seek its pleasures and experience its pains is cyclical. Do you ever think this is wasting our precious human birth? We have so much inner growth to achieve in this short span of time. When we die, we take nothing along.

Keep in mind, this primordial truth of life, I wish you all the grace of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to find that inner need to find a spiritual path; to have all good thoughts and actions to help you become a wonderful and good human being.

I pray that you find all the purposes to live a good life, to be generous in heart, have a universal approach of loving kindness and build a resource of good karma for all our future lives.

With this hope, I wish you all a very happy new year. I pray for your good health, long life and may you find dharma to be your constant companion.

Sincerely,

Minling Khenchen Rinpoche

In Death the many becames one; in ife the one becames many.

Short Biography of Lt. Khenpo Sherab Wangchuk.

Ven. Khenpo Sherab Wangchuk was born in a Buddhist family in Kamarong, a small village in Nepal. Till the age of 16 he stayed home and help his family with house chores like farming, etc. while at home he did his home study of Tibetan grammar and reading. At the age of 16, he joined a monastery in Nepal. He studied all the rituals and lama dances there. To further his knowledge to learn the philosophy of Buddhism, he joined Ngagur Nyingma college, Mindroling.

He was excellent in his studies while he was in the college, never ever missed any classes, abide by the rules and regulations and above all he was one of the highest scores in annual exams.

After his nine years of study, he graduated from the college but for his further gain experiences in guiding other students, for 3 to 4 years he taught in the college. And after 4 years of his teaching the students, by judging of his knowledge, character, his experience with the students, and above all as a dharma practioner, he was enthroned as Khenpo in the year 2013.

He was very simple and humble Khenpo. All the students loved and respected him.He was ill for sometime but recently found out he was suffering from some kind of stomach cancer and too late for cure. He passed away on the 19th Jan at 3.30am. After 3 days was his funeral where Dorje Lopon H.E. Minling Khenchen Rinpoche, Tulkus, Khenpos, senior Lamas and all the monks attend the fire puja for Khenpo.

We all pray that may he born again as a great Dharma Practinoner and benefit all sentient beings.

………………………………..

Impermanence │ Minling Khenchen Rinpoche

Our lives are fragile and impermanent, and because death and its causes are uncertain, we may succumb at any moment. No one knows when, or how, death will come. No one knows when this life of ours will simply cease. There is not one thing in existence that is stable and lasts.

In the past, when the Buddha was alive surrounded by multitudes of Arhats and when the teachings prospered, what buildings must their benefactors have built for them! It was all impermanent; there is nothing left to see now but an empty plain. In the same way, at the universities of Nalanda, thousands of panditas spent their time instructing enormous assemblies. All impermanent! Now, not even a single monk or volume of Buddha’s teachings are to be found there.

Therefore we should make up our minds that we will practise the Dharma instead of throwing our lives away in meaningless activities. We should use our human lives to accomplish the Buddha-dharma.It is like crossing the ocean in search of precious jewels and afterwards returning home with every kind of precious jewels; the difficulties of the trip will have been well rewarded. It would be a shame to come back empty-handed! If we have understanding of impermanence, we will be able to practise the sacred teachings. But if we continue to think that everything will remain as it is, it goes to show that an uncertainty of death has never touched our hearts. That is our mistake, our delusion.

“Map is not the land"

Image

If your mind is released permanently from self-grasping, there is no doubt that you will be released permanently from suffering’’ ─ Saraha

Acclaimed one of the greatest yogis of India in the late 8th century, the indomitable Saraha heads the Mahamudra lineage. He was born into a brahmin class family in Bengal, eastern India, and was raised to become a Buddhist monk. The Pala dynasty of Bengal promoted Buddhism, supported many large Buddhist universities, and encouraged wide-spread learning. Saraha become one of the noted sages of his time. He did not, however, remain a monk. One story has it that he was expelled from the monastic order for indulging in alcohol or some similar breakage of the rule. This may be, or he may have left of his own accord. At any rate, he became a wandering, white robed yogi, homeless and free of desire, seeking only to fathom the mystery of life.He became the disciple of a saint named Ratnamati, who was a master of the Guhyasamaj Tantra. Thus Saraha learnt the profound secrets of a method of meditation that focuses on raising kundalini (Tib: gTum-mo) and abiding in blissful Mind’s own innate state.

As a yogi, traveling aimlessly from place to place across the glorious land of India, eventually Saraha met a young women with similar aspirations to his own. The two became husband and wife. Settling in isolated places, residing in cemetery grounds and in lonely Himalayan temples, they committed themselves to spiritual endeavour.

Saraha’s bride was from a low caste clan of arrowsmiths. Since Saraha, no longer a single monk, now required an occupation to support his wife and family, he took up the trade of making arrows. The very name “Saraha" derives from his occupation as a maker of arrows. When not making and selling arrows, the couple spent their time in Mahamudra meditation, cutting the linear flow of thought, so as to experience naked consciousness in all its unveiled brilliance. Thus the two of them eventually attained mutual Enlightenment together!

Challenged by the people, and having the reputation of a monk fallen from the spiritual Path, Saraha was brought before the king of the land. To declare his innocence and his realization, he then recited before the whole court, a series of spontaneous yogi songs, known as The Three Cycles of Doha. He addressed the first song to the King, the second set to the Queen, and the third set he sang to the assembled people. These songs became famous throughout Bengal and everyone was satisfied that Saraha was a true yogi.

Other short songs have circulated, said to be the composition of Saraha. One speaks directly of the “straight way", making allusion to the straightness of the arrows crafted by the smith. The straight arrow is itself a mystical play on the force of kundalini rising up the central nervous channel, where psyche merges with the Divine at the crown of the head, resulting in oceanic samadhi, endless bliss and effortless wisdom. Saraha sang:

Neither vibration (nada) nor point (bindu),neither sun nor moon— the sovereign Mind
is in and of itself ever liberated.
Abandon not the straight route,to meander down the crooked way.
Enlightenment is near,so don’t dally in worldly life.
The bangle on your wrist, do not attemptto see it looking in a mirror:
look to yourself – see Innate Mind direct!
Those going on either bank are fools pursuing the way of death.
Of the channels cut on left and right,
Saraha says: O! mistake these not  for the route that is straight!

Saraha composed a main meditation text which has been transmitted and studied in the Ka’gyu Order, now for many centuries. This is one of the fundamental treatises of the Mahamudra meditation tradition.

Saraha begins the lineage which descends through his disciple Savari to Luipada, to Dengri, Vajraghanta, Kambala, Jalandhara, Krsnacarya, Vijayapada, to Tilopa and Naropa, the teachers of Marpa of Lhotrak. Marpa was the renowned teacher of Tibet’s greatest yogi Milarepa, and the latter taught Gampopa, to in turn was the teacher of the first Karmapa. Today, the Karmapa is the living custodian of this Mahamudra meditation lineage.

An alternate lineage through Saraha’s other disciple, Nagarjunapada, runs in succession through Savari to Maitripada to Marpa, Milarepa, Gampopa, and likewise to the Karmapa.

Rejoice !

http://khenchen.pixnet.net/blog/post/11893939-/

Love and Faith │

Image

                             ((   Love is a noble act of self-giving .

                                           Dear all , Merry Xmas ! ))

 ………..

Love is a noble act of self-giving, offering trust, faith, and loyalty. The more you love, the more you lose a part of yourself, yet you don’t become less of who you are; you end up being complete with your loved ones.

 Love and Faith │

…….. Love and Faith

Lord Buddha said :For those of you who want to attain enlightenment, do not study many teachings. Only study one. What is it? It is great compassion. Whoever has great compassion has all Buddha’s qualities in his hand.

Love and faith have the same essence of deep caring. The only difference is that love is aimed towards sentient beings, including those who are less fortunate than we are, and faith is aimed toward sublime beings, including all Buddhas and enlightened guides. The nature of love is to give positive energy to others in order to benefit them and to release them from suffering. The nature of faith is to trust in sublime beings in order to receive the blessings of wisdom energy that benefit oneself and others. True faith creates the vast love of compassion that benefits countless beings.

There are four boundless wishes. First, we must acknowledge this love and try to love all sentient beings, who have been our parents over countless lives. Second, it is not enough just to think of their kindness to us; we must give tremendous kindness to them. Third, if they have positive qualities and their lives are happy, we must rejoice instead of being jealous. Fourth, we must be loving, kind, and rejoice for all beings equally.

To increase positive energy, the most powerful method is to create love and faith which arises from original, intangible wisdom energy. If we connect through faith to the vast, profound continuity of mind, the deep, smooth, soothing, light qualities of wisdom energy can flower. The essence of love is the compassion of sublime beings which always gives energy with inconceivable, positive qualities. Those who have been blessed by the wisdom energy of sublime beings for many lives have energy that enlivens and refreshes others.

In ordinary, dualistic mind, we cannot have deep and lasting love either for our equals or for less fortunate beings, because ordinary, dualistic mind depends on the uncertainty of temporary circumstances which causes disinterest, hatred, or betrayal. Ordinary mind has no depth, it is automatically limited. If it becomes unpleasant, we stop feeling it. When we react to circumstances, we are really just considering ourselves and our reactions without respecting or caring deeply about others. When we feel isolated and want to be loved, we show love to others in order to receive love from them in return, but when we are satisfied, we forget about others. This is not enduring and continuous love. It does not cause the impartial compassion of Bodhisattvas because it depends on our personal, selfish desire. Our main interest will be in our own temporary benefit, even though this benefit is easily lost because it depends on unreliable circumstances.

On the other hand if we rely on ordinary, dualistic mind, we cannot have deep and enduring faith, because whenever circumstances change, our faith can easily change so that we give up our beliefs. If we experience a feeling of faith, we want to believe in something, but what we really believe in is only whatever appears in front of us for the moment. Whenever this temporary experience decreases, we disregard what we believed in and discard our faith.

The meaning of faith is to see qualities in others that are much more wonderful than and superior to one’s own. There are three kinds of faith: the faith without reason that makes the mind clear, the faith of desire to receive superior qualities; and the faith of complete belief in sublime beings without doubt, so that one can receive their blessings and become the same as they are.

Whoever has the intention to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings must have faith. As Buddha said:

People who do not have faith    Cannot have white Dharma,

Just as seed burned by fire       Cannot sprout a green shoot.

The intention to have faith creates faith. A clear intention is extremely important in all Dharma because it focuses energy and defines our aim so that we can attain it. Without intention, energy is wasted, diffused, and lost, preventing any accomplishment. If we have the strong intention to pratice in order to reach enlightenment, we can dedicate all of our activity toward this intention.

As much as intention is limited, the result will be limited. If we have a vast intention, no one can prevent its fulfillment because of the unpreventable strength of natural mind. If we wish to help and serve others through love, and to become the same as sublime beings trough faith by praying  and offering to them, without expecting immediate, substantial rewards, one day the power of these vast intentions will become as great as the aim of our wishes, prayers, and offerings.

The biggest obstacle to having faith is the impure perception, through which anything can be misinterpreted. If our spiritual qualities are undeveloped, it prevents us from being able to recognize profound qualities in others.

If we want to develop continuous, vast love that is not affected by temporary circumstances, we have to create faith, since actual love comes from faith. Ordinary love that is not connected to faith depends on the changeable reactions of others, decreasing or increasing according to how it is rewarded and capable of turning into hatred or indifference. This kind of love has expectation and is not truly giving.

Great love comes from the faith which connects us to the blessings of sublime beings’ wisdom mind so that everything, including love and faith, becomes deep and pure. Then ultimately, without any expectation, conditions, or intention, love becomes the unobstructed emanation of the limitless, aimless, natural love of the great compassion of enlightenment.
